The O MATO Experience brought adventure travel and a music festival into one ten-day gathering in the Brazilian Amazon. Guests from Europe and South America shared music, meals and everyday life, sleeping in hammocks in the rainforest. We conceived the format around a simple idea: a shared love of music could bring people together across countries and continents.
The days left room for both shared adventures and independent exploration. Guests could take out canoes, join guided excursions, meet people from neighbouring communities and learn about local medicinal plants in workshops. Spending ten days together gave these encounters a different setting from a passing visit: people had time to get to know one another.
Our music programme reflected both the guests and the place. Electronic dance music sat alongside Brazilian sounds and quieter selections for conversation, reflection and rest. We wanted guests to engage with the musical culture around them while enjoying the artists and sounds that had brought them together.
We combined concept development, music curation and production, working with guides, food and drinks partners, sound specialists and a Brazilian–German construction crew. The clearest expression of the idea was on the dancefloor, where international guests, artists, local crew and neighbours came together through the music.
